General Information

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use

Students, faculty and staff are able to purchase Symantec box copy licenses. These versions are valid for one year. Customers will be limited to one copy of an individual license per calendar year. Each copy is good for one computer only. Licenses and media are not returnable.

Symantec Ghost and AntiVirus Software-Departmental Use

Symantec Ghost and the Symantec Protection Suite software are available for departmental purchase through a site license from the MSU Computer Store. These are licenses that have maintenance, upgrades and support that will expire June 27, 2013. If you would like to continue receiving these services, you will need to renew your license(s) at this time. Upgrades to new versions will be available to users that have a current and valid license as soon as they are available to us and will be the cost of a new media set. These licenses are for departments only and are not returnable.

With the Symantec Protection Suite, you will be able to use either Endpoint Protection alone or in addition to any of the other products in the Suite.

Endpoint Protection for Windows includes the following:

AntiVirus
Antispyware
Desktop Firewall
Intrusion Prevention
Device and Application Control
Network Access Control

Endpoint Protection for Mac includes the following:

AntiVirus
Antispyware

To use SEP only, please order part number SEP-MEDIA.

With the new contract, you are also able to use any of the products in the Symantec Protection Suite. These products include:

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) - This is the license that has previously been available to departments.
Network Access Control (Self Enforcement)
Symantec AntiVirus for Linux
Symantec Mobile AntiVirus for Windows Mobile
Symantec Mail Security for Exchange
Symantec Mail Security for Domino
Symantec Brightmail Gateway - Antispam and Antimalware for internet mail
Symantec Web Gateway - Security and Antimalware for internet traffic
Backup Exec System Recovery Desktop Edition - Backup/recovery solution for endpoints

To use SPS products, please purchase part number SPS-MEDIA in addition to your license for 2010-2013.

Symantec Software-Departmental Use

Symantec software is available at a substantial volume discount through the MSU Computer Store. These licenses are for departments only and are not returnable. All licenses are perpetual and will not expire. Maintenance must be purchased separately on an annual basis.

Symantec Software-Student/Faculty/Staff Use

Students are able to purchase site licensed Symantec AntiVirus from the MSU Computer Store. The license is valid from July 1, 2010 to June 27, 2013 for current MSU students. If a student separates from the University, the software must be uninstalled. Licenses and media are not returnable.

MSU Faculty and Staff are now eligible to purchase the student licenses. The license is valid from July 1, 2010 to June 27, 2013 and can be purchased by current faculty and staff for personal machines that are used for University research/work. If the employee separates from the University, the software must be uninstalled. Licenses and media are not returnable. Retirees are allowed to use these licenses only if the computer they are installed on is used for University business and/or academics.

Installation Information

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use: The software comes in a box with everything you need to install and activate the software. Insert the CD and follow the on screen instructions.

Symantec Software - Student/Faculty/Staff Use: The software comes with everything you need to install and activate the software. You will be provided with instructions for installation at the time of purchase.

Upgrades

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use: Upgrades are not available.
Symantec Ghost and AntiVirus Software-Departmental Use: Upgrade service will expire June 27, 2013. If you would like to continue to receive upgrades you will need to renew at this time. If you have a current and valid license, you may purchase a new media set to get the new version of the software once it is available.
Symantec Software-Departmental Use: Upgrades may be available for your license. Please see price list for availability. You can also contact the Site License Coordinator for more information.
Symantec Software-Student/Faculty/Staff Use: Your license will expire June 27, 2013. If you would like to continue to use your license and receive upgrades, updates and definitions, you will need to renew at this time.

Maintenance

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use: Maintenance is not available.
Symantec Ghost and AntiVirus Software-Departmental Use: Maintenance will expire on the licenses as of June 27, 2013. If you wish to continue to receive the latest virus definitions, you must renew at this time.
Symantec Software-Departmental Use: Maintenance is available only if you purchase it with your license and is renewed annually.
Symantec Software-Student/Faculty/Staff Use: All licenses will expire on June 27, 2013. If you wish to continue to use your license and to receive the latest virus definitions, you must renew at this time.

Home Use Provision

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use: Each license will cover only one computer.
Symantec Ghost and AntiVirus Software-Departmental Use: A home use provision is not available. Licenses are for departmental use only.
Symantec Software-Departmental Use: A home use provision is not available. Licenses are for departmental use only.
Symantec Software-Student/Faculty/Staff Use: Each license will cover only one computer.

Media

Symantec Box Copy Software- Department/Student/Personal Use: Media is provided with the license.
Symantec Ghost and AntiVirus Software-Departmental Use: Media must be purchased separately.
